The best reasons to visit Key West, Florida, are the multiple opportunities to fish at an assortment of different locations to hunt for a wide array of fantastic game fish species. The choices, depending on the season, are plentiful. You can rely on Captain Mike Ledrew knowledge of the local waters to guide you to the best locations to fish while you are visiting. His brand new thirty-six-foot Sea Vee is a powerful (dual three hundred horsepower Yamaha outboards) vessel that offers anglers an opportunity to enjoy both light tackle fishing in shore and deep sea trolling offshore all in a single day.

One of the most popular inshore species is tarpon. These huge fish can weigh up to one hundred and forty pounds. Tarpon loves to bite on cut bait in the Key West Harbor during the spring and summertime. These excellent fighting fish can also be snagged in the saltwater flats.

Permit is another species that can be hooked in the harbor as well as the flats. These silvery sport fish can be caught with green peeler crabs off shallow reefs and wrecks during their spawning season.

There are also ample opportunities to catch three hundred pound sharks in the shallows during their spawn. Some of these toothy predators can also be caught near a wreck or reef while hunting smaller fish. Sharks in the region include lemons, blacktips, nurses, bulls and even hammerheads and tigers.

Mike is also experienced heading offshore on the Atlantic side of Key West to chase marlin, sailfish, wahoo, blackfin tuna, mahi mahi, and more. You will never forget the feeling of hooking one of these excellent game fish while trolling the deep water near the Gulf Stream.

One of the more unique charters that Mike offers is his shrimp boat excursion in the Gulf of Mexico. Blackfin tuna follow the shrimp boats throughout the night awaiting the dump of the bycatch (unwanted species) by the shrimpers. You can have some great fun casting for tuna behind one of these trawlers.

We had a truly memorable fishing trip on the Coolcast with Captain Damon. He was a truly knowledgeable charter captain and we're definitely going to go back out with him next time we're down in the area
