The Key West Aquarium is a great place to visit during your vacation and offers lots of excitement and fun for children and adults. The large 50,000 gallon tank holds a variety of fish species, both schools of colorful tropical fish and larger game fish, including grouper, moray eels, barracuda, tarpon, parrotfish, and many more. Trained staff will give you an insight into the wonders of the underwater world around the Keys, offering fascinating information about mysterious sceneries. The Aquarium also features a recreation of a local Mangrove system.
A visitors’ favorite is the Touch Tank. Here you can get close enough to a variety of sea creatures to touch and pet them. All inhabitants of the Touch Tank are harmless, of course. Also participate in one of the daily tours and witness the feedings of rays, turtles, and sharks. If you are adventurous, you can even touch one of the sharks! Again experts will share their knowledge and expertise and will be happy to answer your question.
Our aquarium is part of an effort for the protection of sea turtles and works with the Turtle Hospital and Florida Sea Turtle Stranding Network, for which state agencies, marine parks, and universities collaborate to ensure the nursing and rehabilitation of sea turtles that have been injured in the wild. Some of the injured turtles are currently at our Aquarium to heal and some will remain here if they cannot recover enough to go back to a life in the wild. Support our efforts and make a visit to the Key West Aquarium a part of your Key West vacation.
